Rayleigh and Wickford MP Mark Francois has congratulated The FitzWimarc School on their recent announcement that they will be opening a sixth form from September 2016.
Mark has been supportive of the school’s attempts to form a sixth form for some time and has previously met with Mr Robert Harris, Headteacher of FitzWimarc, over the past year to be briefed on the schools proposals. The school conducted a consultation exercise about establishing a new sixth form which received well over 400 supportive responses, including one from Mark as the local MP.
Commenting on this welcome announcement, Mark Francois said:
“I would like to congratulate all those who have been involved in this important project which has now achieved a successful result. This is good news for the Governors, staff and those who have supported them as well as for parents and pupils too.
Rayleigh has previously benefited from having two “outstanding” secondary schools, which have now both converted to Academy status and the introduction of a new sixth form at Sweyne Park in 2014. I think it is fantastic that students in and around Rayleigh will now have another high quality sixth form with FitzWimarc too, which they can choose in order to remain studying locally if they want.
I wish Mr Robert Harris and all of the staff and pupils who will now be attending the sixth form all the very best for the future.”
