Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, fulfilled his pledge to visit every school in Wickford when he visited Wickford Infants School recently, to participate in their leaver’s assembly on the last day of term in July.
When Wickford became part of the Rayleigh and Wickford constituency at the 2010 General Election, Mark set himself the challenge of visiting every school in the new part of his constituency. Mark began with visits to Bromfords and Beauchamps secondary schools, and then to Castleton Special School before he began working his way around the primary, junior and infant schools in the town.
During his visit to Wickford Infants School, Mark met with the Headteacher Mrs Pauline Francis and was then invited to hand out a commemorative book to each member of Year Two, who will now be leaving the school and starting at other primary schools (principally Wickford Junior School across the road) in September.
Commenting on his visit to the school, Mark Francois said:
“I believe that schools play a very important part in any community, they are part of a town’s soul. So when Wickford became part of my constituency I decided it would be important as the local MP to get to know each of the schools in my new patch and I am pleased that after two years, I have now been able to complete this. It was lovely to end this tour at Wickford Infants School where the children in Year Two who are leaving to go on to Junior School gave a very energetic school assembly, as part of which I was able to hand out books to every school leaver. Wickford Infants is clearly a very happy and energetic school and I would like to wish all those who were leaving the very best as they continue their education in the future.”
