Rayleigh and Wickford MP joined a host of parents at Fitzwimarc School recently to see the school’s very lively production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. The show, which had Felix Summers, aged 13, in the lead role, played for four nights and Mark attended on the final evening along with Headteacher, Mr Robert Harris.
The musical, with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber is based on the “Coat of many colours” story of Joseph, from the Bible’s book of Genesis. Auditions to take part in the show took place last October and rehearsals then followed in lunchtimes and during the evenings as well.
The production was also supported by three local Primary Schools, Down Hall, Edward Francis and Grove Wood, who supplied pupils for the singers in the Chorus.
Commenting on the evening, Mark said:
“I can recall watching the original production of Joseph when it came out in the West End years ago, but the production which FitzWimarc put on seemed to have even more energy about it than the original which I remembered. The pupils were really belting the numbers out to a delighted audience and it was great to be part of such a fun evening.”
